My buddy Dave swore I'd regret the minis painting shortcut

So my friend Dave has been painting Warhammer minis for like 15 years, and he told me last month not to skip priming them before base coating. I thought I knew better. I had this squad of space marines I wanted to finish quick for a game night, so I just slapped the paint straight on the bare plastic. First two models looked fine, but by the third one the paint started rubbing off on my fingers. I kept going anyway because I'm stubborn. When I showed up to the game two days later, the whole squad had this weird chalky texture and the colors were blotchy. Dave just looked at me and said 'told you' without even smiling. Has anyone else learned a painting lesson the hard way from ignoring a veteran player?

Funny you mention this. I did the same thing with a box of ork boys years ago. Rushed through them just to get them on the table, no primer, no patience. Ended up with a pile of sticky, half stripped plastic that looked like they'd been through a chemical spill. Dave would have loved to say "told you" too, but I never showed them to him.
