My buddy in Chicago told me his game group has a strict 'no phones at the table' rule and it actually cut their setup and tear-down time in half.

He said the constant checking for rules and looking up FAQs was adding 20 minutes to every session, but now they just use the physical rulebook and actually talk to each other, so what's your group's biggest time-waster during game night?

Heard about a friend's group that had this one guy who would spend ten minutes every turn just staring at his cards. Not thinking, just staring. They timed him once and he took a full hour over the course of the night doing absolutely nothing. It got so bad they started putting a little sand timer next to him as a joke, which actually kind of worked. Now they just give him a nudge if he zones out.

Actually that might not be just zoning out. Could be analysis paralysis, which is a real thing for some people. They get so worried about making the wrong move they just freeze up completely. The timer is a good idea because it forces action. A gentle nudge is probably the kindest way to handle it, honestly.

Maybe we should just give him a chess clock and call it a day.
