My FLGS owner's advice about demo copies saved me $140
The guy at Salt City Games in Syracuse told me to always play the store's demo copy before buying, even if the hype is huge. Last Friday I tried Kingsport Festival on his recommendation and found out the dice mechanics just drag for me. That's $140 I would have blown on a game I'd probably never table again. Anyone else trust their local shop owner's judgment over online reviews?

That "always play the demo copy first" advice is gold. I read somewhere that most games look way better on paper than they play in real life, and Kingsport Festival is a perfect example. The theme and art pull you in, but once you're rolling those dice, the fun just dies. I've been burned by online reviews too, they all hype up the same three games and ignore how certain mechanics can feel clunky. My local shop guy has saved me from at least five impulse buys just by letting me run a quick solo turn. Store owners see what actually gets played at their tables, not what the marketing says. That kind of real-world info beats any YouTube reviewer who got the game for free.
