Question about gatekeeping in our board game meetups

I was at a game cafe last week and heard someone say that people who only play light games like Codenames or Ticket to Ride shouldn't call themselves board game geeks. Idk, that rubbed me the wrong way. Do you think there's a minimum complexity level to be a real board game geek, or is the label for anyone who enjoys playing?

Gatekeeping fun is just dumb. Play what you like and call yourself whatever you want.

Just ignore 'em and keep playing what you want. If someone gives you crap about being a "real" fan or player, hit em with "rules dont say i cant" and move on. Works every time.
