Rule explanations felt like a chore until our last meetup
Now I see they help everything run smoother.

Last Saturday at our community pool, the lifeguard spent ten minutes going over safety rules before open swim. I used to find that kind of thing boring and pointless. But that day, a kid almost slipped near the deep end, and everyone knew what to do because of the reminder. It stopped a small accident from turning into a big problem. Now I get why those rule talks matter even when they seem repetitive. What's a time you saw rules actually make a difference?

Oh man, that reminds me of a news story I read about a factory fire. They had a strict rule about cleaning up sawdust, and the one day a guy skipped it, a spark caused a huge blaze. Those boring rules are always about the one time you really need them.

My apartment building had a rule about not propping the lobby door open. I rolled my eyes every time I saw the sign. Last month someone left it open overnight and a pipe burst from the cold, flooding three floors. That one ignored rule cost everyone a huge repair fee. Your story about the pool safety talk, @smith.anna, really hits on that same idea. We tune out the repeated rules until the one time following them would have saved a lot of trouble. It makes me pay more attention to those boring warnings now.
