An old guy at the yard in Philly told me my weld prep looked like a kindergartner's art project

He said my bevels were too shallow and my fit-up had gaps you could drive a truck through, so I started grinding everything twice as deep and checking with a feeler gauge. Now my welds are holding way better on pressure tests. What's the harshest but most helpful tip you've ever gotten on the job?

Drive a truck through" is classic. My foreman once told me my cleanup looked like a raccoon rummaged through the tools. Hurt, but he was right. Started doing a proper tool check before leaving any site.

Was the raccoon thing really that big of a deal though?

My buddy got told his pipe weld looked like a dog chewed it, and honestly, it did.
