Coffee shop conversation with a pipefitter changed how I read blueprints

I was grabbing a quick coffee in Gary before a shutdown gig and this old pipefitter, Mike, pointed at my blueprint and said 'you're reading that like a novel, try reading it like a map.' I mean, it sounds dumb but he showed me how he follows the weld symbols first, then the dimensions, and it's been way easier to spot conflicts before I even fire up the torch. Has anyone else had a random chat like that completely flip your workflow?

Start treating symbols like landmarks instead of reading every line in order. Once you lock onto the weld marks first, the whole sheet clicks into place. It’s like your brain finally stops drowning in ink and starts seeing the actual job. I had a welder tell me almost the same thing about pipe spools, took me a week to unlearn the old habit.
