Had to choose between a 3/8-inch gap or grinding down a whole flange on a job in Duluth last Tuesday. Went with the gap and now the inspector is making me redo it.

My old boss in Toledo taught me that lesson the hard way too.

Claire_hart53's story reminds me of a shortcut that once backfired on a big project... we all learn eventually.

Remember that article about the bridge inspection in Pittsburgh? They found a bunch of those "minor" gaps from rushed jobs, and it turned into a whole structural review that shut down lanes for a week. Makes you wonder if that inspector has seen the same report, right? Now every time I see a flange, I just picture that news story and grab the grinder.

Ever think a small gap was no big deal? I used to, until a similar shortcut cost me a whole day's work. Now I just do the grind right the first time.
