Hearing a hum from the school's heating system got me onto vibration checks

I ALWAYS ignored small noises, but that steady buzz showed how things shake loose. Now I tell my guys to LISTEN for hums before they even open the panel.

Man, I used to be the king of ignoring weird noises until my own fridge taught me a lesson with a death rattle. Now I'm jumpy at every little buzz or hum. Guess I learned the hard way too.

After that fridge's death rattle, @the_spencer, I bet you're on high alert for any weird hums. Your kitchen appliances are probably shaking in their circuits.

Used to think all those kitchen sounds were just background noise. Never gave them a second thought until my water heater started groaning last year. Ignored it for a couple days, figured it would stop on its own. Then it burst and left a huge mess in the basement. That experience totally changed how I listen to my house now. I hear every little hum and click, and I act on it fast. You just can't unlearn that kind of lesson.
