Lost $150 on a cheap welding hood off Amazon

I bought a no-name auto-darkening hood for $150 on Amazon and it failed after 3 months. The sensor stopped working mid-weld on a job in Tulsa. Has anyone else had luck with the Jackson or Miller hoods under $300?

I got a Jackson TrueSight II for about $210 after my first cheap hood died the same way. It's been solid for almost two years now through some pretty heavy use. The lens is way clearer than that cheap one too.

Two years is pretty good for a mid range hood though the TrueSight II runs closer to $250 these days, not $210. The lens clarity is definitely a step up from the cheap ones that start fogging up after a few months of shop use. Those bargain hoods just aren't built to handle real daily welding.

Wait, the sensor just gave out while you were in the middle of a weld?
