Overheard a foreman say RT-Flux welding is faster than stick on big pipe
I caught him telling an apprentice that RT-Flux cuts welding time by half on heavy wall boiler tubes, and now I'm thinking about switching up my certs. Has anyone else tried making that jump and seen a real difference in weld quality?

Wait, half the time on heavy wall boiler tubes? That's a pretty wild claim, I'd want to see that with my own eyes before I believed it. Is he running some kind of special setup, because that sounds almost too good to be true.

Have you seen the torch he's using on that job? I've got a buddy who runs a similar setup with an acetylene rig that has a preheat ring, and he cuts through schedule 160 pipe like butter compared to standard torches. It cuts the time way down if you get the flame right and have a good oxygen supply.

Heard someone say those preheat rings really do make a huge difference...
