That fancy welding helmet with the auto-darkening lens was worth every penny
I was dead set against dropping $400 on a Miller helmet, figured my old fixed-shade was fine. After 3 straight days of overhead work on a boiler in Detroit, my neck stopped hurting and I actually saw the puddle clearly for once. Anybody else switch and never look back?

Man, my first time using a good auto-darkening hood I felt like such a dope for fighting it so long. I had the same neck pain and eye strain for years, thought it was just part of the job. Now I can't believe I ever went back to that old fixed shade, feels like I was working blind the whole time. My buddies still give me grief for spending that much, but they're the ones borrowing my hood every afternoon. Best money I've ever wasted, if you can call it wasting.

Truth. Fixed shade gave me headaches for years. That first clear view was unreal.

Switched to transition lenses a couple years back and it made a huge difference for me too, @taylor.sean. My old fixed tint gave me this weird pressure behind my eyes after a few hours. The gradual shift from light to dark is way gentler on my vision, especially driving late afternoon.
