TIL marking a chalk line on the tube before I roll it saved me a whole re-do on a 60 inch shell
Was fitting a 60 inch shell last week and kept getting my long seam about a quarter inch out of line after rolling. An old hand on the crew watched me fight it twice and told me to snap a chalk line down the tube before it goes in the rolls. I tried it on the third pass and the seam landed dead on the first time. Been doing this 11 years and nobody ever showed me that. Now I want to know what other little setup tricks you all use that never made it into the books.
