Update: Had to choose between a full pressure test or a visual inspection on a 30-year-old boiler in Milwaukee
The client wanted to save time and money, so they pushed for just the visual check. I insisted on the full hydrostatic test, which found a hairline crack in a lower seam we never would have seen otherwise. How do you guys handle it when a customer really fights you on a necessary safety procedure?

Frame it as a liability shield for them. That crack is now documented, protecting them from future negligence claims.

Guess that crack just became @the_viola's get-out-of-court-free card.

Honestly, I used to be the guy who would give in to save the hassle. Figured a good visual was enough most of the time. But a situation just like yours, finding a tiny flaw under pressure, totally flipped my view. Now I see pushing back as part of the job, because the what-if is too big. How do you get them to listen without starting a fight?
