Weld test I took last Tuesday at the union hall in Detroit
I went down to the Local 169 hall in Detroit for a weld test on some 2 inch schedule 80 pipe. They had me do a 6G position with 6010 root and 7018 fill, which I've practiced a lot but never under a time limit. My caps looked okay but I think I burned through on the root pass near the bottom... has anyone else had trouble with the 6G on heavier wall pipe?

6G on heavy wall is a beast. That root burn through is brutal.

Man that brings back memories. First time I tried a 6G on schedule 80 I about threw my hood across the shop. The root pass kept dumping in on me and I had to grind it all out twice before I got it right. My instructor just stood there shaking his head the whole time. @the_lee knows what I'm talking about I bet.
