Am I the only one who skips the first 50 pages of a book and never misses anything?

I started doing it with dense non-fiction after a friend in Omaha told me authors spend the first few chapters setting up stuff I don't need. Has anyone else found a shortcut like skipping chapters or reading the last page first that actually works for you?

Skip the preface and intro too. They're never essential.

You ever write a whole intro, read it back, and realize even you don't care what you just said?
