At a book club meetup in Tucson, a guy reread a chapter out loud and I almost quit the group
Two months ago at our monthly meetup in Tucson, we were talking about a novel none of us really liked, and one member started reading a whole page out loud to prove his point. He went on for maybe 4 minutes while the rest of us just sat there, and I got so annoyed I almost walked out. It did get me thinking though, because his reading actually showed why the chapter worked and half the group changed their minds. Now I can't tell if reading passages aloud in book club is fair arguing or just hogging the floor. Where do you all land on this, should a host set a time limit or is reading out loud just part of the deal?
