Book club member's note about my summary style fixed our meetings

Last month someone in our group said my recaps sounded like a police report, all facts and no feeling. I started adding one personal take per chapter and now we actually argue about the book instead of just nodding. Has anyone else tweaked how they present picks after a critique like that?

Tbh my book club once spent an hour arguing about a toast scene instead of the plot.

Different strokes I guess, but that toast scene is probably doing way more work than people give it credit for. The little details in how characters act during small moments often tell you more than the main plot ever does. Sounds like your book club actually found the real story, whether they knew it or not.
