Colored sticky notes saved our community center book club from total gridlock

We were stuck for weeks arguing about whether a character's actions were justified, so I brought in different colored notes for 'agree', 'disagree', and 'unsure'. Placing them on a board during discussion gave a quick visual consensus and moved us forward. It's become our go-to method for any divisive literary topic now.

Try using more colors for nuanced takes. We added a "needs more context" note for when someone wants to revisit a specific chapter before deciding. Cuts down on circular arguments.

Color coding saved my last project team from total gridlock. We stole that idea from urban planning like @maxf54 said, but used sticky notes on a big board. Having a "wait, explain this again" color stopped so many pointless fights. It made people show their actual problem instead of just arguing. Simple visuals really do force clearer thinking.

My book club tried this but we needed eight colors for our different grudges, per @faithcampbell.

It's fascinating how simple visual aids can cut through complex debates. Like @faithcampbell mentioned, adding nuanced categories prevents people from talking past each other. We see this in tech stand-ups where red-yellow-green cards indicate project blockers, or in urban planning where residents use colored dots to prioritize community needs. These methods force clarity over posturing, which is desperately needed in our polarized discourse. What other everyday tools have you seen adapted to facilitate better group decisions?
