Found a stat about Stephen King's 'It' that threw me off

I was flipping through a blog post from the American Literature Association last week and saw that 'It' by Stephen King is over 1,100 pages long. That's longer than 'War and Peace' by like 200 pages depending on the edition. It made me wonder how many book clubs actually finish that monster in a month... have any of you guys actually made it through a group read of that one?

People bail around page 500" - man, that's exactly where the book really hooks you. I think a lot of folks get hung up on the side stories but that's what makes the whole thing work. My book club did it in two months, we just set smaller weekly chunks and actually talked about the Derry history stuff instead of treating it like filler.

Is 1,100 pages really a group read or more of a personal challenge with occasional check-ins? I've only ever seen people bail around page 500 when the side stories start dragging. How does a book club even keep momentum when half the members are three weeks behind?
