Just hit 100 books in our club and the argument over what counts got heated

Oh man, I'm the worst for this. I once tried to count a graphic novel I read in a dentist's waiting room. The fight over that was longer than the book itself. Hitting a big number just turns us all into rule lawyers trying to pad our stats. It's half the fun, honestly.

The "what counts" argument is the whole point of a book club.

My friend's book club almost broke up over audiobooks... like, does listening while you drive to work count as reading? Craig.john's dentist office graphic novel is just the start. What about skimming a cookbook for the recipes, or reading a long article in a magazine? If the goal is just a number, people will count anything. But if the goal is to talk about ideas, then maybe how you got them matters less.
