Okay, so my book club read 'Klara and the Sun' last month, and the debate was super flat. We read 'The Vanishing Half' this month, and it was a total 180. The difference? I sent out three specific discussion questions 24 hours before we met.

That prep time @harpery47 mentioned also cuts down on the loudest person just running the whole show.

Oh man, that makes so much sense. I mean, I've been in a club where we just showed up and tried to wing it, and half the time we'd just talk about the characters like they were real people and not much else. Sending questions ahead is such a simple fix, it gives everyone time to actually form a real thought. I guess it stops the conversation from just being surface level reactions.
