Our book club's group chat imploded over a spoiler, but it actually fixed our meetings

Last Tuesday our club chat blew up because someone posted the ending of The Silent Patient before the meetup. Two people left the group. One person called it a betrayal. Honestly it was a mess for like three days. Then I suggested we move all spoiler talk to a separate pinned thread with a 48-hour rule after each meeting. We voted on it Thursday and it passed 9 to 2. Since then our actual discussions have been way more focused. Nobody tip-toes around plot points anymore. Has anyone else had a drama like this turn into a better system?
