Shoutout to the woman at the Portland book swap who called my "unreliable narrator" take lazy
I was at the Rose City book swap back in March arguing that the narrator in Gone Girl was just a liar, and this woman named Dana pushed back hard in front of like 15 people. She said unreliable narrators reveal more about the reader than the character because we fill gaps with our own assumptions, and honestly she was right. I reread the whole book that week with her point in mind and found 6 scenes I'd completely misread the first time. Now I want to know how you all handle it when someone shreds your take in front of the group, do you defend it or just sit with it for a few days like I did?
