Spotted something wild at the Denver library that changed our book club talk
I was grabbing a copy of 'The Overstory' for our meeting and saw a huge poster for a banned books display. It had 37 titles with little notes about why people tried to remove them. Our whole debate shifted from just the plot to WHY this book gets challenged so much. Has your club ever picked a book just because it was controversial?

Totally agree with @charlesm50. Grabbed 'The Bluest Eye' for my group once because it was on a banned list. We ended up talking less about the writing and more about why it makes people so scared to have it on a shelf. That fear tells you way more about society than the book itself sometimes. I mean, the reasons are always about protecting someone, but from what? Ideas? Makes the whole meeting way more interesting.

What kind of books usually get that reaction from your group? Like, is it always the obvious ones?
