That $85 'book club starter kit' turned out to be a total paperweight
Ordered this fancy kit from Portland with discussion cards, voting pads, and a special timer, but my group just uses our phones for everything now. Has anyone else dropped cash on book club gear that ended up in a drawer, or do you actually use that stuff?

The timer thing is the real killer for me. Ours had this whole sand hourglass setup that was supposed to keep people from rambling past their turn, but the second someone's phone buzzed, the sand and the cards and the little voting pads all just sat there. Last month we spent twenty bucks on these laminated question cards and now they live under a stack of napkins in my kitchen. The one thing that survived is the cheap stuff, like a plain notebook we pass around to jot down next month's pick. Honestly the group runs itself on group chat polls and whoever remembers to bring snacks.
