The week my book club read a 900 page sci-fi novel and nobody finished it

We all showed up last Thursday pretending we read 'The Book of the New Sun', but three people admitted they just skimmed Wikipedia and one guy brought the wrong book entirely. Has anyone else had a book pick that was way too long for a two week read?

My buddy's book club picked a 1200 page fantasy novel and only one person got past chapter two.

Jumping in to gently correct - 'The Book of the New Sun' is actually a four book series, not a single 900 page novel, lol. Each one is like 300-400 pages so your club might've survived if you just picked the first one. Still though, that's rough when nobody finishes the pick. Reminds me of when my group tried 'Dune' and half the people showed up having only seen the movie. The guy with the wrong book is honestly iconic though, what was he holding?
