The stranger who underlined the same page as me at Powell's

Found a beat-up copy of The Secret History at Powell's last month. Someone had underlined the line about winter in Vermont and wrote 'yes' in the margin. Weird thing is, I've done that exact thing to so many books I've traded. I stood there for a minute, wondering if I'd ever unknowingly held a book that person had read. Has anyone else found notes in a swapped book that felt like a little message?

People always focus on the notes they find, but nobody talks about the books we write in ourselves. Every margin scribble is a tiny time capsule that might outlive us. The real kicker is realizing your own handwriting could be the 'yes' someone else finds years later, and you'll never get to see their face when they read it.
