Took me 12 years to realize I was shelving books backwards

I've been swapping books on here for ages and always organized my giveaways alphabetically by the author's first name. Like Stephen King went under S for Stephen instead of K for King. What tipped me off was when a guy at the last swap meet in Portland pointed at my shelf and asked if I was trolling him. I felt like a total idiot, especially since I used to work at a used book store in college for 2 summers. Has anyone else had a basic book organizing habit that made zero sense for way too long?
