Learned the hard way: stop skipping the spine lining

I was binding a 300 page novel last week and thought I could skip the mull and just use PVA on the spine. Ended up with a wavy spine that creased after 5 openings. Had to rip the whole thing apart redo it with a proper spine lining. Anyone else try to cut corners on spine prep and regret it?

Super glue on a book spine... that sounds like a disaster waiting to happen @miles_young59. Really hope nobody actually tries that.

Did you try adding a layer of super before the paper liner?

I read somewhere that skipping spine lining is like building a house on a bad foundation, you just can't do it.
