Misaligned endpapers used to make me insane, today I let them be

For about 20 years I would redo a whole case if the endpaper pattern was even a hair off square. Then a client brought in a 1940s novel that had obviously crooked endpapers fresh from the publisher, and she loved it because it gave it character. That made me try just leaving my next few books alone instead of tearing them apart. Now I check the grain direction and hinge strength, but I don't stress about a 2mm shift. Has anyone else loosened up on a perfection rule that used to eat hours of their week?
