My first flatback came out wrong after 15 years of rounding

I always rounded spines, it felt like the proper way. Last week in my shop near Portland, I tried a flatback binding on a simple journal and the cover warped so bad it looked like a potato chip. Turns out my board thickness was off for the flat lay, I never had to think about that before. Anyone else switch techniques late and have to relearn basics that seem obvious now?
