My grain direction mistake on a leather cover cost me 5 hours of rework
I finally got around to binding a small journal for a friend last weekend. I cut all my leather pieces without paying attention to the grain direction and ended up with a cover that twisted and wouldn't lay flat when I opened it. Took me about 5 hours to cut new pieces from my leftover hide and redo the whole thing. Has anyone else made this same mistake with bookbinding leather?

Been there, raw side facing up would have saved you.

Doesn't that just make you feel stupid when you realize it?
