Stuck between a 90-degree spine and a flat back yesterday
I was rebinding an old 1940s textbook that had that super rigid spine, and I had to pick between rebuilding it with the original stiff boards or doing a flexible rounded spine that would actually open flat. I went with the rounded spine because I figured nobody wants a book that cracks when you open it, but now the text block feels a little loose in the case. Has anyone else had trouble getting a rounded spine to stay tight after the glue dries?

Try packing the spine lining tight before you glue the cover on.

Wow, I never thought about that angle at all. @wendyg43 that tip about packing the spine tight first makes a lot of sense to avoid bubbles.
