Switched from PVA to wheat paste on my last 3 repairs and the spine linings opened up so much easier
I used PVA on everything for about 6 years. Fast, strong, didn't think about it. Then I did a 1911 dictionary with a cracked hinge back in March and the PVA went tacky before I could get the cloth lined up. Tried wheat paste on the next one and it slid around just enough to fix mistakes. Slower drying too so no panic. The paste soaked into the mull better and the linings laid flat without bubbles. Only hassle is cooking it fresh each time. Anyone else make the switch? What's your mix ratio?
