That Saturday workshop at the county fair changed my spine shaping

I watched an old timer round book spines with just a bone folder and a flat board, no press needed. He showed me how creasing the joints before gluing keeps the boards from warping, and I tried it my next three binds with zero issues. Has anyone else ditched heavier equipment for a simpler step like that?

My buddy Craig swore by his fancy GPS fishfinder for years, wouldn't go out without it. Last summer it died on him mid trip, and he had to use his dad's old white bobber and a paper map to find his spot. Caught his limit before noon and got home in time for lunch, while his buddy with all the high tech gear came back empty. He still keeps that old bobber in his tackle box as a backup, just in case. Sometimes the simple stuff just works when the fancy stuff gives up on you.
