Warning: That $18 bone folder from the craft store snapped on my 3rd book

Last month I picked up a cheap bone folder at Michaels, figured it was fine for rounding spines. Snapped clean in half while I was creasing a 400 page text block, sent shards flying across my bench. I've been binding for 6 years and never had one break like that, even the plastic ones from my starter kit. Replaced it with a proper Teflon folder from a supplier in Portland, cost $32 but it flexes without cracking. Anyone else had budget tools fail at the worst possible moment, or am I just unlucky with the cheap stuff?
