Watched an old timer at the Seattle Book Fair repair a 1700s Bible with wheat paste and linen scraps

Dude had no fancy tools, just his hands and a brush. He was patching a torn page while my coworker was stressing about pH neutral adhesives. Made me realize im overthinking half this stuff. Has anyone else seen someone work with just the bare basics and pull it off better than we do with all the gear?

Honestly I used to think you needed all the fancy stuff too but that kind of work changes your mind.

The fancy stuff just gets in the way when you're up to your elbows in reality anyway. Guess practicality wins out in the end.
