Why does nobody talk about how long it takes to line a spine with mull cloth?
I mean, I thought it would be a quick step on a recent repair job. I started by cutting the mull to size, which was fine. Then I spent over an hour just trying to get the paste application even without soaking the cloth too much. It kept bubbling or sticking to my fingers. I finally got it smooth after three attempts and letting it dry overnight. Has anyone else found a faster way to do this without messing it up?

Ugh, I feel your pain. I read a tip once about using a wider, softer brush to put the paste on the spine itself first, not the mull. Then you lay the cloth down and smooth it from the center out with a bone folder. It supposedly helps control the soak and stops bubbles. I tried it last month and it was still fiddly, but way less paste on my fingers. Letting it dry under a light weight is key too.

Less paste on the fingers is a win in my book... even if the whole thing still feels like trying to fold a wet napkin. That bone folder trick sounds promising though.
