Caught my neighbor watering his succulents with ice cubes last Tuesday
I was just trimming my jade plant when I saw him drop ice cubes into each pot. Said he read online that 'cold water mimics desert nights.' I had to bite my tongue but later I brought over my copy of Sunset Western Garden Book and showed him the chapter on succulents needing room temperature water. Has anyone else run into weird plant care hacks that just won't die?

Actually cold water can work for some desert succulents during summer dormancy.

My poor little echeveria got hit with a cold draft last week and it just curled right up. It's nice to know I'm not the only one dealing with this kind of stuff.

Yeah, the curling up is awful to see. My graptopetalum did the same thing last winter when I left the window cracked a little too long. It took a solid month to settle back down. You definitely aren't alone in this.
