Heads up about the overgrown path at Shawnee Park...

I walked through the native plant section there last weekend and it's completely choked with english ivy. Has anyone else noticed the invasive vines taking over the demonstration gardens?

Admit I always thought ivy was harmless but now I see how it smothers everything.

Yeah but that's actually english IVY not a native plant, which is totally different from the demonstration gardens.

Oh, I need to gently point out something. English ivy is actually invasive around here and definitely not a native plant. The demonstration gardens are supposed to showcase native species that support local pollinators and wildlife. Last time I checked, the park website specifically listed native plants like wild columbine, butterfly weed, and goldenrod for those beds. The ivy you saw is likely spreading from the wooded section nearby. I'd recommend reporting it to the park office since volunteers put real work into maintaining those gardens.
