I used to think repotting a root-bound monstera was a quick afternoon job. It took me nearly 4 hours.

Oh man, that sounds about right. I swear those plants grow secret extra roots just to mess with you. What starts as a simple pot swap turns into an epic battle with a dirt monster. Next time I'm just going to tell people I'm performing delicate plant surgery, it sounds more impressive for the time spent.

Ever try the "soak and wiggle" method on those root bound monsters? I let the whole root ball sit in a bucket of water for like twenty minutes, makes the roots way easier to untangle without feeling like you're going to snap the main stem.

Ever have one so bad you just use a hose? I had a peace lily last year that was basically a solid brick of roots. Soaked it like you said, then put the whole mess under a gentle spray from the garden hose. The water pressure did most of the work, just washing the old soil out and loosening everything up. Took a while but I barely lost any roots.
