Just realized I was drowning my fiddle leaf fig after a plant shop owner in Denver told me 'it's a desert plant, treat it like one' and I cut watering to once every 3 weeks.
Has anyone else had a dramatic turnaround with a finicky plant after getting one simple piece of advice?

Oh man, can I ever relate to this? I was basically giving my snake plant a daily bath because the leaves looked a little dry. Turns out I was loving it to death. A friend finally told me to just forget it exists, and now it's thriving out of pure spite. I guess my nurturing instinct is just plant murder in disguise.

Right? @the_thea, I feel seen. I killed three succulents by watering them every other day because the soil looked "lonely." My aloe plant finally grew after I left it alone for a month on a dark shelf. Some plants just want us to walk away and let them be dramatic in peace.

Loving it to death" is the perfect way to put it. I did the same thing. The trick is to treat them like a lazy roommate. Stick your finger in the soil, way down to the second knuckle. If it's dry, you can water. If it's even a little damp, walk away. I set a calendar reminder for every three weeks just to check, not to automatically water. It stops the overthinking.
