Just tried bottom-watering my snake plant for 3 months straight

Everyone says snake plants hate wet leaves so bottom-watering is the only way to go, but mine started getting yellow tips after 8 weeks of that method. I switched back to top-watering with a small watering can and the new growth looks way healthier. Has anyone else seen this happen or did I just have a weird plant that broke the rules?

Bottom watering is basically tricking yourself into thinking you're a better plant parent than you actually are. I tried it for a few weeks and my snake plant looked like it was auditioning for a plant horror movie with all the yellow tips. Turns out I was just drowning it slower, which is somehow more embarrassing than just overwatering it the regular way. Now I just top water with a measuring cup like a normal disaster. Jordanblack is right about timing though, I was leaving mine in a tray for an hour thinking I was being thorough.

Stick with bottom watering but change how you do it. Yellow tips usually mean too much water not the method. Bottom watering can trick you into soaking the soil way longer than needed. I let mine sit in water for like 15 minutes max then pull it out. If you left it sitting for hours that'll drown the roots no matter what. Snake plants are tough but they rot easy if the soil stays wet too long.

Man I'm convinced my snake plant is gonna outlive me just to spite my watering habits. I once left a pothos sitting in a tray of water overnight and it looked like it had been on a bender the next morning. My current trick is to stick my finger in the soil every few days like I'm checking a cake for doneness. Anyone found a good way to tell when they actually need water versus when they're just being dramatic?
