My grandma told me to talk to my plants and I thought she was losing it
Back when I was in my early 20s, maybe 2016 or so, my grandma gave me a little jade plant cutting. She said 'you gotta talk to them, tell them they're pretty, they'll grow better.' I just laughed and put it on my windowsill. Watered it whenever I remembered, maybe once a week. It barely grew for like two years. Then one day I was on the phone with her, ranting about work, and I just started talking to the plant out of habit. I did it every morning with my coffee for a few months. That thing doubled in size. Now I have like 20 plants and I still mumble at them. Is there actual science behind this or is it just that I pay more attention when I talk to them?

Oh man, I feel this so hard. I used to think my mom was nuts for whispering to her spider plants, but now I catch myself apologizing to my pothos when I forget to water it.

@grant.felix my pothos gets more apologies than my actual houseguests, it's honestly embarrassing.

Took me a few years to come around too. That jade plant my grandma gave me sat there looking sad as ever until I started chatting to it during my morning coffee. Now I have a whole shelf of plants that I apologize to when I forget waterings. Works better than any alarm I ever set. Ever notice how talking to them makes you actually check the soil and leaves more often?
