My prized monstera collapsed after 7 years, need advice

Last Sunday I noticed the main stem of my monstera looking droopy. By Monday morning it snapped right at the soil line, took the biggest leaves with it. I think I overwatered during that heatwave in Austin. I cut the healthy top part and stuck it in water, hoping for roots. Has anyone saved a big plant after a stem break this bad, or should I just start fresh?

SEVEN years? Man, that's brutal. I've had my monstera for about four years and I would be absolutely sick if that happened. The fact that it snapped right at the soil line after all that time is just cruel. You did the right thing cutting the top, that's honestly your best shot. I've seen people save massive plants that way, but the waiting game is the worst part. Give that cutting a few weeks in water and keep the light strong, but also don't feel bad if it doesn't make it. Sometimes these old giants just give up after a rough season.
