Peony ants are actually helping, not hurting, my garden beds
I read a piece from the Chicago Botanic Garden site that blew my mind: those ants on peony buds are there for nectar, and they don't damage a thing. Turns out, my whole 'kill every ant on sight' habit was probably doing more harm by leaving pesticide residue around the blooms. Last spring I watched a colony work a single bud for 2 hours and the flower opened perfectly fine. Anyone else let the ants do their thing, or do you still spray?
