Shoutout to the $12 moisture meter that saved my calathea from root rot
I bought a cheap moisture meter at a garden center in Phoenix about 6 months ago, mostly because I kept guessing wrong on my calathea and killing it. The thing cost $12 and I figured it was a gimmick, but it turns out my finger test was reading way too dry and I was soaking the poor plant every 5 days when the soil was still wet 3 inches down. Now I only water when the meter says 3 or lower and the calathea has pushed out 4 new leaves since March. Does anyone else use one of these or do you just trust the finger poke?
