Showerthought: My neighbor's comment about my 'dead' hydrangea made me see it differently.
She pointed out the dried flower heads still had structure and color, calling them 'winter interest' instead of a failure. Anyone else have a plant they learned to appreciate in a new phase?

Read an article once about seed heads being important for birds in winter. Totally changed how I see my spent coneflowers.

Wait, you just leave the dead coneflowers up all winter... I always cut mine down in the fall. The birds actually eat those?
