Spotted turtlehead blooming at a bog in northern Wisconsin and now I want one
I was up at a sphagnum bog near Minocqua last weekend and found a whole patch of Chelone glabra, white turtlehead, just starting to open. I counted about 15 plants along the boardwalk edge, all growing in soggy peat with cranberries and cotton grass right beside them. I always figured it needed rich garden soil, but these were in straight bog muck with standing water an inch deep. Does anyone grow turtlehead in a normal yard, and does it actually handle wet feet that well or did I just catch a lucky spot?
